Intelligent supernatural action set in World War Two. (5 stars).
The author creates a very believable alternative history of World War Two; one in which both Nazis and the Allied Forces employ the services of skilled warlocks and wizards. Miss Escobar has given us an intelligent heroine trained in the ways of magic, who must pit her skills and her wits in this marvellous story teaming with warlocks, shapeshifters, vampires and mind benders, while protecting her own heart, and the identity of a Time Wizard who may have the power to win the war.
Fast paced action written on a grand scale, and the many twists and turns, together with well rounded all too human characters made this a riveting read. This is the second in the "Gray Tower" Trilogy, preceded by "The Tower's Alchemist" and although I was completely spell bound from the first page of "Dark Rift" and the author's exciting prose carried me directly into the adventure, I've now downloaded the first volume, eager to discover how the adventure begins, and needless to say, cannot wait for the third volume to be published.
